Exclusively offered in North America, the 2019 GMC Canyon comes with several interesting novelties. This mid-size truck originally came in 2014 and the company brings a couple of updates. Although many reports suggested a facelift, the new model focuses on different kinds of updates, primarily on more features. One of the most notable novelties is a new infotainment system, which is a part of a nice batch of novelties that came in the cabin of this truck. On the other side, visual appearance continues in the same way, with minimal tweaks in terms of colors and similar things.
2019 GMC Canyon Design
In terms of base design characteristics, the 2019 GMC Canyon continues in the same way. Just like its sibling from Chevy, it rides on the same GMT platform and features pretty much the same mechanics. On the other side, you can count on a completely different styling. The Canyon follows GMC’s design philosophy and with a much more rugged appearance. While Colorado clearly shows its International character, this one is a genuine American truck, with a boxy shape and bolder nature.
Practically, it looks very close like, now previous-generation Sierra, just in a smaller package. The massive grille and rectangular headlights are hard to miss. Simply said, the Canyon looks far more upscale compared to Colorado. Things are getting even more luxurious if you go for the model’s top-range trim, Denali, which adds a completely new grille and lots of chrome details around the vehicle.
2019 GMC Canyon Configurations
When it comes to body style, this truck comes in several configurations. In terms of cab layout, you can count on two versions. Base models feature a familiar Double Cab layout, with half-size rear doors. On the other side, Crew Cab models feature full-size rear doors and come with much more space on the inside. Base models feature 6.2-foot bed, while Crew Cab versions could be ordered either with this or with a foot shorter bed.
2019 GMC Canyon Interior
Unlike the exterior, the inside of this truck comes pretty much the same as Colorado. Other than the steering wheel, the dashboard looks identical. Of course, there are few tricks like new schemes and similar things. All in all, the 2019 GMC Canyon interior remains the same, at least when we talk about design. Of course, there are several novelties in terms of standard equipment, as we already mentioned. One of them is a new infotainment system. Also, count on things like navigation, power-adjustable driver’s seat, parking sensors etc.
Other than that, things are pretty much the same. The base trim level organization remains unchanged. In terms of comfort and overall interior quality, this truck is above average for the class. Front seats are very comfortable, while the rear bench will probably be tight for taller passengers.
2019 GMC Canyon Engines
Though it hasn’t been confirmed yet, many reports suggested a new four-cylinder engine to come as another optional powertrain for this capable truck. It is a new 2.7-liter turbo inline-four, which delivers a great amount of power, around 310 horsepower and 348 pound-feet of torque. Considering that the new year model will hit the market in a matter of days and that there is still no official confirmation, we will probably have to wait for another year.
Rest of the lineup continues in the same way. Base models will feature a familiar 2.5-liter inline-four with around 200 horsepower. Still, an optional V6 seems like a much better choice. A familiar 3.6-liter unit is good for about 308 hp and 275 lb-ft, which seems like a perfect measure for this truck.
Of course, the 2019 GMC Canyon diesel is coming as well, with a familiar 2.8-liter Duramax unit. With its 180 horses and amazing 369 pound-feet of torque, it would be a perfect choice for those who need a capable working machine that offers class-leading tong ratings.
How much can 2019 GMC Canyon tow?
As we’ve just mentioned, this truck can offer you a class-leading towing capacity, which goes around 7.700 pounds. Of course, you can count on these numbers only if you choose a diesel engine. On the other side, models with a V6 engine are good for about 7.000 pounds. Finally, the 2019 GMC Canyon towing capacity with base four-cylinder engine goes around 3.500 pounds.
2019 GMC Canyon Release Date and Price
The 2019 GMC Canyon’s release date is a matter of days. Moreover, you can already get it in some states. When it comes to the price, base models go around 21.000 dollars. Still, the price jumps pretty quickly, so the top-range Denali goes around 43.000 dollars. Still, keep in mind that this trim is mostly about aesthetics and that there is actually no bigger upgrades in terms of features.
When it comes to the competition, there is a nice number of well-designed rivals. Of course, there is the class-leading Toyota Tacoma, as well as the Honda Ridgeline, which offers superior comfort and driving characteristics.
